The number of drones in Europe is skyrocketing. Today, over 1.6 million drone operators are registered in the EU, with an estimated 2 million drones in circulation. But with rapid growth come new safety challenges – from threats to privacy to potential risks for critical infrastructure.

To address these challenges, Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions Slovakia and Slovak Telekom have introduced an innovative solution: Drone@Onsite – a drone detection system that has already proven its reliability in demanding international environments. Most recently, the technology was tested in real-life conditions in Bratislava, during Slovakia’s largest football event of the year.

Bratislava as a Technology Test Hub

Bratislava became a live testing ground for drone detection innovation. The protected zone included the area surrounding the National Football Stadium, which was monitored by six advanced sensors installed on Slovak Telekom’s towers. The Drone@Onsite system evaluated aerial activity in real time, providing detailed information for each detected drone – including exact location, altitude, drone type, and pilot position.

Test Results Speak Volumes

Between June 4 and June 24, the system detected a total of 625 drone flights. The longest recorded flight lasted 187 minutes on June 11, while June 5 stood out as the busiest day, with 96 flying objects detected over the monitored area.

“For a few weeks, Bratislava became a live lab for testing state-of-the-art security technologies. The results show we can effectively protect public spaces even under high-density conditions. We’re proud that Slovak Telekom was part of this technological milestone,”
Peter Laco, Director of Corporate Customers
Division, Slovak Telekom

“I’m pleased we joined forces with Slovakia’s largest mobile operator to bring a world-class drone protection solution from T-Systems International. This cooperation proves we can deliver innovative, global-level technology to our customers,”
Ľubor Žatko, CEO, Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions Slovakia

Technology Proven in the Field

The Drone@Onsite solution uses radio frequency (RF) detection combined with TDOA/multilateration technology, allowing for early and reliable detection of drones – before they pose a threat. It identifies various frequencies and communication protocols, covering up to 95% of commercially available drones. Even in densely built-up areas, it can accurately locate the pilot, enabling security teams to respond quickly and effectively.

Unlike radar or video systems, which rely on light or weather conditions, RF detection delivers high precision, low false-alarm rates, and wide coverage with only a minimal number of sensors. The system can also be fully integrated into existing security infrastructures.

Scalable Solution for Any Airspace Protection Need

Drone@Onsite is ideal for a wide range of clients – from police and armed forces, to critical infrastructure operators, event organizers, and municipal authorities. It is available both as a permanent solution and as a short-term rental – for example, for one-off public events. The system is fully scalable and adaptable to specific security needs.
